Before we write a paragraph, we need to make it clear what and why we are going to write. Because a paragraph depends on its purpose.
What is a paragraph?
A paragraph is a block or writing a single topic or idea. Normally a paragraph has several sentences written on a single idea. A paragraph should be as short as possible.
A paragraph can be only a sentence if the sentence can make the full sense of the topic. So, we need to continue a paragraph till we make the idea clear to our readers.
How many sentences should be in a paragraph
Some educators and teachers say that a paragraph should be minimum of 100 to 200 words long. Others say it should contain 3 to 5 sentences.
But, I think a good paragraph should not be measured in characters, words or sentences. There are no mandatory rules about the length of a paragraph.
If your paragraph is very long, the reader loses interest and patience. That is the main problem. If the paragraph is complex with different topics, the reader can not understand it well. Then the purpose of your writing goes in vain.
To me, a paragraph must be very short and no more than 2 or 3 sentences and we should write it on a single idea. It helps readers to keep patience and understand better.

I think you have realized, how long a paragraph is. But, how many sentences you should write on the exam paper.
You have heard your teachers saying to write a minimum of 5 or 10 sentences in primary school, right? Did they say wrong? The answer is “No”.
They said to write 5 or 10 sentences but they didn’t mean to say you always write 5-10 sentences. The aim of the teacher was to make your idea clear, elaborated, supportive and effective. That’s it.
This kind of paragraph has a topic sentence, some supporting sentences and a concluding sentence. The number of supporting sentences is not definite. Here the main idea should be described. So it needs more knowledge to write the topic in detail.

While you are writing an essay or article in academic writing. Your writing should be limited considering marks. You also have to make your writing descriptive, informative and easy to understand.
First, write a topic paragraph. Then write some supporting ideas that describe the main idea. At the end, put a concluding paragraph.
How to Write Paragraphs People Want to Read
Though your paragraphs are well written and have much information, your readers may lose their patience and interest to read your content if the paragraphs are too long.
Divide into Very Short Paragraphs
Long paragraphs don’t attract readers. If you are writing a long content such as a blog post, news or article, divide your content into various short paragraphs or 2 or 3 sentences. By doing this, you can make your readers read through the full content
Use Attractive Headlines
Most of the people don’t read the full text. They go through the headings only. Your headlines can make your readers read the full paragraph.
Headings describe your paragraphs in short. Thus, a reader can understand your content just by reading the headlines.
There is no hard and fast rule to limit a paragraph. Normally we should make a paragraph comprising of 2 to 4 sentences to improve readability.
A conclusion should have a minimum of 3 and maximum of 5 sentences to be short and simple. You should try to make conclusion very short and simple.
There are no strict rules on how many sentences, words or lines your paragraphs should be, and there’s no need to limit your writing. You may write long or short. Just remember your purpose of writing.
